Exotic Dancewear Essentials: What Dancers Actually Buy

Exotic dancewear is stage clothing built for club and pole performance. Two piece sets, G-strings, bodysuits, monokinis and themed costumes made from stretch fabric that moves, holds its shape and reads under stage lighting. It is bought differently from lingerie. Dancers buy in multiples, replace pieces on a schedule, and choose by how a garment behaves during a set, not by how it looks folded. This is the list of what actually gets bought, based on what moves in our Exotic Dancewear collection.

What counts as exotic dancewear

The category often overlaps with swimwear and lingerie but has different priorities. Fabric has to stretch in every direction and snap back. Colors and finishes have to show under UV, LED and low light. Pieces have to be quick to change, easy to wash and cheap enough to replace. Femme X, which is the stage and beach line curated by FemmeBasics, is designed around those four requirements. Most of the range is one size with tie or stretch fit so a dancer can buy a set without a fitting.

1. G-string packs

The highest turnover item in any dancer’s bag is a G-string. G-strings get sweat-soaked, stretched by tips, and lost. Buying singles is a false economy, which is why multipacks sell first.

The Femme X G-String 3-Pack Mirror ships three mirror finish G-strings. The color packs are a mixed pack of blue, red and silver or three of one color. The Femme X G-String 4-Pack Mesh gives four mesh G-strings in a mixed pack or single colors including hot pink, white, red and black. Both are one size in a 94% polyester, 6% spandex stretch blend. For lace, the Femme X 3-Pack Lace Thong comes as one each in white, black and red or as a single-color pack.

Most dancers keep the mirror packs for stage. The mesh or lace packs are usually meant for floor work. The full assortment is in our G-Strings collection.

2. Mirror and holographic two-piece sets

The mirror finish is the standard “stripper outfit” look for a reason. It throws light back at the room, so a small piece registers from across the club. Holographic fabric does the same with a color shift.

The Femme X 2-Piece Mirror Set is a triangle top and tie side bottom in hot pink or purple mirror. It comes as one size. The Femme X Mirror Micro Bikini has a bandeau inspired top and an ultra minimal bottom in black, red, beige, pink and purple mirror. Dancers treat these as interchangeable stage sets: the tie sides mean the bottom can be removed on stage without stepping out of it, and the top ties at the neck and back so it can be adjusted for a set that includes pole work.

One care note that matters more for dancers than for anyone else is that mirror fabric is viewed as a surface coating. It creases if folded tight and can crack under heat. Roll it, do not fold it, and never put it in a dryer.

3. Mesh and fishnet bodysuits

A bodysuit is the layering piece. It goes over a two-piece for the first song and comes off for the second. Mesh reads as sheer under light without being nude. This is often why clubs with stricter rules allow it.

The Femme X Micro Sheer Bodysuit is a minimal cut one piece in mesh and fishnet options, one size. The Femme X Open Back Bodysuit comes in black mesh and in gold, red, beige and purple mirror. The Femme X Shine Bodysuit adds cut outs with adjustable ties, in mirror colors plus the BlackLace and Holes options. For an all-mesh look with the choker built in, the FemmeBasics Mesh Bodysuit with Choker & Cuffs is 82% polyester, 18% spandex mesh with an attached polyurethane choker and matching cuffs, and it is one of the few pieces in this list made in our own Colombian workshop.

4. Monokinis and one-piece sets

A monokini gives the reveal of a two-piece, but with only one garment. This matters when the changing room is a bathroom stall. The Femme X Monokini & Top Set pairs a high-cut monokini with a separate top in black mesh or red, purple, beige and pink mirror. This means that it works as a two-layer set. The full range is in Monokinis.

5. Pole dance outfits

Pole work has its very own set of rules. Skin grips the pole, as where fabric does not. A pole dance outfit needs bare legs, bare arms and a bare midriff. It also needs the top and bottom secure enough to survive inversions. That is why pole dancers buy the same micro sets as stage dancers, they make it work for them by but tying them tighter. A triangle top with a necktie is preferred over a bandeau, because it can slide during a spin. Femme X triangle-top sets like the 2-Piece Mirror Set and the Sexy Micro Bikini fit that brief.

6. Themed costumes and accessories

Themed sets sell around holidays and special nights. The Femme X Bunny Costume is a black top with button details, tie-side bottoms and a bow tie, in one size and one size plus. The Femme X Ruffle Panty, a bloomer-style panty with layered mesh ruffles and a satin bow, is bought for burlesque and costume routines. The ruffles move with every step. It comes in black, white, red and pink, one size and one size plus, with a cotton gusset. The Monokini Printed Flag covers the July 4th and patriotic-night bookings.

What dancers ask before buying

Does it come in a pack? For G-strings, yes; see above.

Is it one size? Most Femme X pieces are one size with tie or stretch fit, and a few offer one size plus. Read the size line on each product. We only list one size plus where it exists.

Will it hold up to nightly washing? Hand wash in cold water and air dry. The polyester-spandex blend tolerates frequent washing. The mirror finish tolerates it too, as long as it never sees a dryer or an iron.

Can I order for a group? Dancer houses and clubs ordering in quantity can use the wholesale page.

Building a starter set

A working minimum is two mirror two-piece sets, one mesh or lace bodysuit for layering, one monokini, and two G-string packs. That gives five stage looks and enough spares to get through a weekend without laundry. Add a costume set for themed nights and the Rave Outfits edit for festival bookings. These use the same mirror and neon pieces.

Quick answers:

What do exotic dancers wear on stage?

Two-piece sets in mirror, holographic or mesh fabric, G-strings, sheer bodysuits or monokinis for layering, and themed costumes. Pieces are chosen for stretch, quick removal and how they read under stage light.

What is the best fabric for a pole dance outfit?

A stretch polyester-spandex blend that leaves skin bare on the legs, arms and midriff so the body can grip the pole. Tie adjustable triangle tops stay put better than bandeaus during spins.

Why do dancers buy G-strings in packs?

G-strings wear out and go missing faster than any other piece. Multipacks in one size cost less per piece and keep matching spares on hand for back-to-back nights.
